Mike Putt started his career as an apprentice Sailmaker in London's Royal docks. He went on to become a Master sailmaker and Production manager of William Smiths, then the worlds largest manufacturer of Flags and military tents.

He Started his own business in 1969 and went on to work on many famous ships including HMS Victory, The Cutty Sark, HMS Belfast, HMS Warrior, as well as manufacturing many sails and covers for the National History Museum in Greenwich and Chatham Historic Dockyard.
